Valentine’s Day at Haalo – Rescheduled

In my lovely northern California town, we have a very special herbal apothecary called Haalo, which stands for “Health Alternatives for All Locals.” It is more than an herb shop, it is a veritable vortex of healing energy.

I am not able to perform at Haalo today because I caught a cold from my sweet daughter. Stay tuned for another date at Haalo in March!

In the meantime, please accept this free download of “You Are Loved” from my heart to yours:

May Love surround you and penetrate you, multiply within you and glorify you today and every day!

Upcoming Performance at Give Peace a Song – International Day of Peace Celebration

Give Peace a Song

My first live performance since the “Right Here Now” CD Release Concert will be on Sunday, September 20th, 2015 at the “Give Peace a Song” event in historic downtown Nevada City, California. Hope to see a great turnout for peace! More about the event from organizer, Lorraine Reich:

In commemoration of the International Day of Peace, the Peace Center of Nevada County hosts a community event to bridge the unrest and violence of the world with our visions for peace and social and environmental justice. The “Give Peace a Song” event provides a platform for local artists to display art that brings art and politics together in most creative ways. There are many reasons why we should care about art — first and foremost because artists have a lot to say, and through their art we are engaged in ways that expand our view of the world. Some say that art necessarily changes the world, but at the very least we are transformed in our thinking, concepts and world views. The program will feature local song writers and musicians sharing with us their expressions on these times with lively songs and music. Performers will include Catherine Scholz, Nory Fussell, the Peace Chorus, Jeffrey Gottesman, Bob Polucha, and more.

There will also be a number of local community leaders who will speak on various topics that impact our world today. Among the speakers are Sharon Delgado, Reinette Senum, Bill Drake, and unconfirmed is Joanna Robinson. The new “Utah Phillips Peace Bench” project will be announced at the event.

The Peace and Justice Center invites all people of faith, conscience, and goodwill in the spirit of nonviolence to come and join in speaking out publicly for an end to war, poverty, and environmental destruction. The event takes place from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Nevada City Veterans’ Hall at 415 N. Pine Street, Nevada City. For more information visit www.ncpeace.org or write ncpeace@sbcglobal.net. The event is free and open to the public, donations gladly accepted, and of course there will be free snacks and beverages.

Spring 2013 Update

California Organics Market

It feels good to have a couple of live gigs coming up. Thanks to music promoter and KDVS Davis DJ Karen Carchidi, I’ll be filling in for Juliet Gorbert at California Organics restaurant on Friday May 24th at 6:30pm.

I’ll also be playing a short set at Anya Devi‘s Solstice party on June 21st. Both events are in Nevada City, CA.

I gave my website a lift and made it responsive (it automatically resizes according to the requirements of the browser/device being used). Let me know how it looks for you and your device.

Meanwhile, I am still remixing my 2008 release, Whirlwind Girl. Recently I had the pleasure of recording on The Center for the Arts‘ Steinway grand piano. I tracked on “Nothing’s Wrong” and “Hammer and the Chimes.” Michael Logue did the recording and we are working together to mix in the new sounds. So far they sound incredible! Women’s Writing Salon: details

This Saturday, September 11 starting at 4pm, I have the honor of sharing 3 of my original songs with the Women’s Writing Salon at Sierra Mountain Coffee Roasters in Grass Valley, CA. Here is the order of readers and our bios:

1. Catherine Scholz
2. Ann Keeling
3. Christine Irving
4. Jan Fishler
5. Kirsten Casey
6. Ronnie Paul

BIO’S

1. Catherine Scholz is a singer-songwriter and composer born and raised in the Milwaukee area with a degree in Music from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. She moved to northern California in 1999 and she is currently working on a number of original pieces from a variety of genres: folk, folk-rock, and instrumental ambient dance tracks. She is also eagerly anticipating her 2nd child in late October. Her website is: catherinesmusic.com.

2. Ann Keeling is a writer, editor, and personal writing coach who has taught at universities and high schools. Most recently, she taught Creative Writing at Ghidotti Early College High School. Her passion lies in helping students increase their writing mastery and find the brilliance of their unique voice. She has an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College and an MFA in Dance from UCLA. She lives in Grass Valley with her husband, son, and a black-and-white dog.

3. Christine Irving is a poet and playwright. She performs frequently in local venues and is the author of a book of poetry, Be a Teller of Tales and a CD, Originals. Her latest endeavor is a chapbook of poetry entitled, The Naked Man. Her books for children, Prickly Predicaments, Prickly Passages and The Mystery of the Black Madonna are available on Kindle. She is currently working on a novel about Mary Magdalene.

4. Jan Fishler recently completed an adoption memoir, Searching for Jane, Finding Myself. Now, she spends much of her time learning everything she can about marketing books and implementing the various techniques and strategies shes read about. In her free time, Jan walks her golden retriever on the Gracie ditch, kayaks on lower Scotts Flat Lake, and dreams about having her book included in Oprahs book club.

5. Kirsten Casey earned her MA in Creative Writing over 18 years ago, and she continues to work on advanced degrees in mothering, stain removal, and chauffeuring. Occasionally she writes a poem. She lives in Nevada City with her lovely husband, three loud children, and neurotic dog. She would rather be here than anywhere else.

6. Some things never change. Ronnie Paul continues to practice yoga diligently, cook incessantly, write memoirs sporadically and salsa dance flamboyantly. Further more, she still hasnt written her promised cookbook or learned how to text message. Her aspirations include living in a body that never aches or pains and allowing herself to sit and read novels in the afternoon.

Upcoming solo performance: Women’s Writing Salon

My next solo appearance will be at the Women’s Writing Salon in Grass Valley, CA on Saturday, September 11th (re-imagining this date in our history). I will be performing Last Long, Blue Day, Carol Ann (a new upcoming release!) and Whirlwind Girl.

Then I will take a break to bring a new piece of human-life-music into our world around October 26th (that’s code for “baby!”).

Blessings of harmony,

Catherine

ShrimpFest 2009 with the Ginger Ninja’s

What a beautiful night among friends at the South Yuba River on last Saturday, 7.11.09. On a granite slab jutting out over the water, Michael and I mused for the river folks through the Ginger Ninja’s pedal-powered sound system. The acts that followed us included Ruby Turple with Cedar Bear Dyken with Summer Moon The Ginger Ninjas Obo Martin SHAKE YOUR PEACE! and Fossil Fool. Definitely a night to remember. Thanks, Kipchoge, for inviting us to shrimp with you at the river!
